Nowadays, the effects of Global Warming are extremely affecting some countries, especially those small ones, such as Maldives, Philippines, and Japan. In fact, Maldives is now on a danger zone of sinking on the bottom of the water as the sea level is rising drastically, while Philippines and Japan experience extreme natural disasters such as the typhoon Haiyan on 2013 (Philippines), and strong earthquakes followed by big tsunamis in Japan.
These facts may be very alarming, however, there are still, but only few people or countries who consider Global Warming as a very important factor to study and to take possible solutions. But the question is, is it possible to reverse the effects of Global Warming?Unfortunately, the answer is no. We can not reverse the impact of Global Warming, as it is already present in our planet, however, we can still do something to lessen or slow down these future events. Therefore, I will share to you five (5) possible solutions that you, your family, and friends could do to lessen the emission of carbon dioxide that causes Global Warming.
Top (5) things you could do personally to reduce the Impact of Global Warming
1) Segregation of wastes
Google- Segregation of waste
The segregation of waste (separating by types) is very easy and very helpful for your community. You just need to have four (4) labeled containers, and segregate your waste into biodegradable, non-biodegradable, recyclable and toxic. Biodegradable wastes are those that can be decomposed which are mostly made from natural living things such as animals, plants, and trees. These can be use as soil fertilizers. Non-biodegradable wastes are those that cannot be decomposed, but can be reused or recycled into a new product. Recyclable wastes are those that can be recycled into new product or into its original form and purpose. Toxic wastes are those that should be disposed properly and with care, because if not, it may harm living organisms and even humans and animals. After segregating your wastes, you are now able to know, manage and control your waste.
2) 3R concept: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle
The 3R concept is also very easy to do. You just need to reduce your waste by purchasing products that can serve you for a long time. For example, instead of purchasing a lot of bottle of water, you can just buy one water bottle, and use it everywhere you can. You just need to refill it. Also, you can reuse things in your house instead of throwing it outside. For example, you can give away to other people your stuffs that you don’t use anymore such as bag-packs, school uniform, books, etc. You can also recycle things. For example, you can use plastic bottles to decorate your room or house.

3) Use public transportation
Based on the research, it is said that burning one gallon of gasoline without ethanol creates almost 20 pounds of carbon dioxide, while one gallon of diesel fuel creates about 22.38 pounds which is very high considering the number of cars circulating around the world. If most people use the public transportation such as trains, subways, buses and trams, it will reduce drastically the emission of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere which may help us stabilize it. So, if possible, use public transport than your car. It decreases gas emissions and saves your money!
4) Reduce heating and air conditioning
Google- Adjusting Thermostat
In one article, it says, “setting your thermostat just 2 degrees lower in winter and higher in summer could save about 2,000 pounds of carbon dioxide each year” (WWF). So, to reduce heating and air conditioning, you can either turn off the heater or air-con when you leave the house or while sleeping. If you cannot stand the cold, put on your jacket, and if you cannot stand the heat, go for a swim and use your best hanging t-shirts and shorts inside the house.
5) Plant trees and plants

The best and long term solution for the excess emission of carbon dioxide is planting. As we all know, plants and trees absorb carbon dioxide and produce oxygen that we breathe. So, if we plant more trees and plants, we can stabilize the carbon and oxygen cycle which helps reduce Global Warming. Based on scientific evidence, it says, “In one year, an acre of mature trees absorbs the amount of CO2 produced when you drive your car 26,000 miles” (TreePeople). So, plant trees and plants to have a healthy surrounding and healthy body!
So, these are five (5) possible things that we can do personally to help reduce Global Warming. I hope I helped you.
